Drug May Prevent Alcoholics From Relapsing

An Oregon Health & Science University study found that an experimental drug that blocks the euphoric feelings associated with drinking could prevent alcoholics from relapsing. Tamara Phillips, Ph.D. said, “We showed we could block behavior in mice that resembles this increased euphoria even after the animals had been given a lot of alcohol”. Human clinical trials of the drug could start sometime within the next year.
